Anyone who puts their data exclusively in the cloud is not doing well

You will be immersed for a week in all possible techniques used by hackers. That will open your eyes! When you see how easy it can be to break into someone else's system, you will think twice about putting your data somewhere in the cloud.

The best part was that our teacher said: "Say not that you put your data in the cloud, but that you put it on someone else's computer." And they are right. The data in the cloud is not just 'somewhere', but on a physical computer in some data center.

And that data center ultimately has control over that computer. Anyone who reads the fine print will see that the data center has the right to disconnect a computer from the network if it has been hacked. And what about the company that has its data on it?

The data centers are continuously attacked via the internet. It is therefore extremely easy. It is enough to have a computer and a connection to the internet. Then one can attack computer systems anywhere in the world. Our teacher is part of a group that takes action when a break-in is detected in some computer system; they then go on site to track down the hacker and remove it from the system. This can sometimes be very simple, but can sometimes take several weeks, depending on how strong the other party is. Sometimes they have pushed one out only to see another come in the next day.

During those lessons I met people from all kinds of companies, ranging from aircraft manufacturers to manufacturers of home appliances, who want to arm themselves against this.

Especially with the internet of things that is coming, good security is very important. In any case, I will think twice before connecting to any (wifi) network while traveling.
